LAHORE, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 8th Aug, 2026) Lahore Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Faisal Kamran on Friday said that the crime rate in Lahore had witnessed a significant decline due to coordinated efforts by Lahore Police, Safe City and the Crime Control Department (CCD).
Addressing the “Meet the Press” programme at the Lahore Press Club, he said that Lahore faced the challenges common to major metropolitan cities, but the police had made substantial progress in controlling crime through modern policing and coordinated operations.
The DIG said that in June 2023, around 9,149 incidents were being reported in a month, whereas the number had now declined to around 900 calls, reflecting a substantial improvement in the city’s crime situation.
He said Safe City, CCD and Lahore Police had been working jointly to combat crime, adding that Safe City technology was used in tracing a large number of reported incidents.
“Compared with 380 cities worldwide, Lahore has witnessed an improvement in its crime index,” Faisal said.
He said Lahore Police had successfully performed security duties during major events in 2026, including Basant, Ramazan, Sehri, Eid shopping, Eid-ul-Azha and Muharram, ensuring that these events were conducted peacefully.
The DIG said the police had also strengthened its internal accountability mechanism, making it clear that strict action would be taken wherever corruption was found.
He said the welfare of police personnel had also been given special attention. In 2023, Rs3.6 million had been provided for the welfare of police personnel, while the amount had now increased to Rs60 million.
Faisal Kamran said he had personally heard the complaints of 55,050 citizens through open courts during the past two and a half years, adding that around 70 to 80 per cent of the complainants had expressed satisfaction with the resolution of their issues.
He said Lahore Police and the legal community had signed a memorandum of understanding under which free legal assistance was being provided to deserving citizens.
The DIG said police had also launched strict action against loan sharks and illegal moneylenders, assuring citizens that every possible legal protection would be provided to victims.
Earlier, Lahore Press Club President Arshad Ansari welcomed the DIG Operations and said journalists and police had a close working relationship, as both played an important role in combating crime and serving society.
He appreciated the efforts and policies of Faisal Kamran, and said they had contributed to the reduction in crime in Lahore.
The event was attended by Lahore Press Club Senior Vice President Salman Qureshi, General Secretary Afzal Talib, Joint Secretary Imran Sheikh, Finance Secretary Salik Nawaz, Governing Body members Syed Sajjad Kazmi, Sarmad Farooq Khawaja, Asad Mahmood, Syed Badr Saeed and Kamran Khan, besides office-bearers of the Crime Reporters Association and senior journalists.
At the conclusion of the programme, LPC President Arshad Ansari and representatives of the Crime Reporters Association presented commemorative shields and bouquets to DIG Operations Faisal Kamran.
