ISLAMABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 7th Aug, 2026) Federal Minister for the board of Investment (BOI), Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, Friday, highlighted the immense potential of Pakistan-China economic cooperation, emphasizing the importance of learning from China’s remarkable development journey.
Speaking as the chief guest at the Global South Innovation and Investment Summit 2026 hosted by OIC-COMSTECH, the minister observed that China’s success lies in its strategic planning, emphasis on consensus-building, and effective implementation of decisions.
The summit brought together a distinguished gathering of policymakers, diplomats, investors, entrepreneurs, and academicians to deliberate on innovation, investment, and economic cooperation across the Global South, said a press release issued here.
Reflecting on his extensive engagement with China over several decades, he noted that the country’s transformation was driven by consistent policies, collective decision-making, technological advancement, and a strong commitment to mutually beneficial “win-win” partnerships.
“Their approach to business is focused on solutions rather than prolonging differences, which has been a key driver of their sustained economic growth,” Sheikh remarked.
He underscored the importance of technology transfer and innovation, stating that Pakistan must leverage its young population—over 60 percent of which comprises youth—by equipping them with modern skills in technology, artificial intelligence, and digital industries.
He highlighted the need to transition towards value-added production and export-led growth, drawing lessons from regional economies such as China, Vietnam, Bangladesh, and India.
The minister also spoke about the ongoing efforts of the Board of Investment to facilitate investors through regulatory reforms and improved ease of doing business. He noted that the government is actively working to reduce unnecessary regulations, streamline procedures, and promote a one-window facilitation mechanism to encourage both local and foreign investment.
Highlighting Pakistan’s trade imbalance with China, he stressed the need to enhance exports through value addition and industrial development based on local raw materials.
He emphasized that sustainable economic growth requires strengthening domestic industries, promoting innovation, and improving competitiveness in international markets.
He further reiterated the critical role of overseas Pakistanis, stating that their investment potential can be unlocked by ensuring a transparent, business-friendly environment. “Investment in most countries is largely driven by domestic and overseas investors. We must build their confidence through facilitation and policy consistency,” he added.
Reflecting on his own background as a businessman, the Minister emphasized the importance of bridging the gap between the public and private sectors.
He highlighted that effective policymaking requires alignment between government institutions and business communities to remove bottlenecks and promote economic growth.
Sheikh also stressed the importance of human development, noting that investment in education, skills, and innovation is essential for long-term progress. He acknowledged current economic challenges, including low growth rates and limited job opportunities, and called for collective efforts to accelerate economic activity and create employment for the country’s youth.
urged stakeholders to work collaboratively, learn from successful global models, and capitalize on Pakistan’s strategic partnerships. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fostering an enabling environment for investment and innovation.
