LAHORE, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 6th Aug, 2026) Director General Sports Punjab Muhammad Tariq Qureshi chaired a meeting at the National Hockey Stadium on Thursday to review the progress of Maryam Nawaz Sports City project.
The meeting was attended by Director Admin Abid Shaukat, Deputy Director Zahoor Ahmed, officials of the Project Management Unit (PMU) and a delegation from Engineering Consultancy Services Punjab (ECSP).
During the meeting, PMU sports officials gave a comprehensive briefing on the planning and implementation of the project. The participants reviewed the ongoing progress and discussed various aspects of the proposed sports city, including infrastructure development and future execution plans.
Addressing the meeting, Director General Sports Punjab Muhammad Tariq Qureshi said that the Maryam Nawaz Sports City would be a landmark project and it will be Pakistan’s first modern sports city.
“The project is progressing steadily and will feature world-class sports complexes equipped with modern facilities to promote sports and nurture athletic talent”.
Director General Sports Punjab Muhammad Tariq Qureshi said the Punjab Sports Department is committed to developing international-standard sports infrastructure across the Punjab province. “These facilities will provide athletes with a professional training environment and help strengthen the province’s sporting ecosystem”.
Highlighting the department’s ongoing initiatives, Qureshi said that more than 2,500 boys and girls are currently receiving free training at the CM Punjab Sports Academies. “The academies are emerging as an effective platform for identifying promising young athletes who will represent Pakistan in international sports events”.
