DERA ISMAIL KHAN, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 5th Aug, 2026) The Young Doctors Association (YDA), Dera Ismail Khan, on Wednesday expressed concern over the prolonged suspension of key urological surgeries at the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital, urging the hospital administration to immediately provide the required equipment and facilities to restore the services.
According to a statement issued by the YDA, essential urological procedures, including Ureteroscopy (URS), Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (PCNL), Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumour (TURBT) and Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP), have remained unavailable for nearly one and a half years due to the lack of necessary surgical instruments and other essential facilities.
The association said it had repeatedly informed the hospital administration about the issue and called for the immediate provision of the required equipment, but the matter had yet to be resolved.
It said the continued suspension of these procedures was placing a heavy burden on patients, particularly those from low- and middle-income families, who were compelled to seek treatment in other cities.
This, it added, had resulted in additional financial, travel and psychological hardships for patients and their attendants.
The YDA stated that since its establishment, one of its Primary objectives had been to ensure the availability of quality healthcare services within Dera Ismail Khan so that residents would not have to travel elsewhere for essential medical treatment.
The association urged the DHQ Hospital administration to take immediate steps to provide the necessary equipment and facilities required for URS, PCNL, TURBT, TURP and other essential urological procedures, enabling patients to receive timely treatment in their hometown.
The statement further maintained that access to quality healthcare was a fundamental right of the people of Dera Ismail Khan and reaffirmed the association’s commitment to raising its voice for improved medical facilities.
It added that the issue was not only related to the availability of healthcare services but also had implications for patients’ right to treatment and the quality of clinical training for future doctors.
