RAWALPINDI, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 5th Aug, 2026) Like other parts of the country, the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) was observed with religious devotion, solemnity
and reverence amid extraordinary security arrangements.
The central Chehlum procession commenced from Yadgar Hussain Imambargah concluded at Qademi Imambargah after passing through its traditional designated routes.
Thousands of mourners participated in the procession, paying tribute to the supreme sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and the martyrs of Karbala.
The Majalis were held at imambargahs and mosques throughout the district.
Religious scholars and speakers highlighted the enduring message of the tragedy of Karbala, emphasizing that the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the Ahl-e-Bait, and the martyrs of Karbala symbolizes truth, justice, patience, steadfastness, and resistance against oppression, serving as an eternal source of guidance for humanity.
Following the conclusion of the majalis, Zuljanah processions were taken out from various parts of the city in accordance with tradition.
All religious gatherings and processions concluded peacefully while adhering to their designated schedules and routes.
Authorities implemented comprehensive security measures for the central procession and other mourning events.
Procession routes and adjoining streets were secured with barbed wire and other protective arrangements to prevent any untoward incidents.
Markets, commercial centers, and business establishments along the procession route remained closed, while devotees established water stalls (sabeels) and distributed food among participants.
According to a police spokesperson, more than 3,600 police officers and personnel were deployed to ensure the security of the central Chehlum procession. Additionally, over 300 traffic police officials managed traffic flow and implemented an alternative traffic plan throughout the day.
The entire procession route was monitored through CCTV cameras, control rooms, and modern surveillance technology. Walk-through gates, metal detectors, special checking points, and female police personnel were deployed at entry points to ensure thorough screening and maintain security.
Meanwhile, Rawalpindi Commissioner Salman Ghani, accompanied by Regional Police Officer (RPO) Babar Sarfraz Alpa, visited the central Chehlum procession to review the overall security and law-and-order situation.
During the visit, City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi Hassan Mushtaq Sukhaira briefed the officials on the security plan, police deployment, traffic management, and other administrative and operational measures undertaken to ensure the peaceful observance of the occasion.
Rescue 1122 personnel and the Bomb Disposal Squad also remained on duty to facilitate the mourners and ensure their safety.
