Home department says 869 majalis and 494 processions will be held at various locations across Punjab during Chehlum
LAHORE: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News- August 3rd, 2026) The Punjab government has sought deployment of Army and Rangers for assistance of police to provide security for Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), with hundreds of religious gatherings and processions planned across the province.
Punjab Home department said that 869 majalis and 494 processions will be held at various locations across province during Chehlum.
To strengthen security, the provincial Home Department has sought assistance from the Pakistan Army and Rangers, whose personnel will support police forces in maintaining law and order and securing religious events.
The security plan also covers the annual Urs of Hazrat Ali bin Usman Al-Hajveri (RA), commonly known as Data Ganj Bakhsh, with law enforcement agencies tasked with ensuring the peaceful conduct of both events.
The Punjab government has requested the deployment of 43 companies of the Army and Rangers across 18 districts.
The deployment will comprise 15 Army companies and 28 Rangers companies.
Security personnel will be deployed in Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Rawalpindi, Attock and Chakwal. Troops and Rangers will also be stationed in Sargodha, Khushab, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Faisalabad and Jhang.
The deployment will further extend to Pakpattan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan.
The Punjab Home Department has written to the Federal Ministry of Interior seeking security assistance in response to a request from the Punjab Police.
Officials said coordinated measures by the police, Army, Rangers and other law enforcement agencies would be maintained to ensure the peaceful observance of Chehlum and the Urs and to prevent any untoward incident.
