Group’s chairman and former Afghan general Sami Sadat makes announcement in a video message, saying permission had been granted to begin military operations against the Taliban
KABUL: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-August 3rd, 2026) !The Afghanistan United Front, an opposition group in Afghanistan, has announced the launch of armed operations against the Taliban government, signalling a new phase in the country’s anti-Taliban resistance.
The group’s chairman and former Afghan general, Sami Sadat, made the announcement in a video message, saying permission had been granted to begin military operations against the Taliban.
Sadat said the initial phase of the campaign was already underway, with Taliban members, military installations and senior leadership identified as targets.
Appearing in an Afghan military uniform, the former general said his group would fight not only the Taliban but also Al-Qaeda, Islamic State, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other militant organisations.
He argued that nearly five years of Taliban rule had demonstrated that efforts to achieve a political settlement through negotiations had failed.
Sadat called on Afghans living inside the country and abroad to unite behind the movement, saying the objective was to free Afghanistan from what he described as Taliban repression.
He said the Afghanistan United Front sought to restore an independent and constitutional Afghan state based on the 2004 Constitution, international humanitarian law and the principles of the Loya Jirga.
The former general also appealed to the United States, NATO and the international community for political and material support. However, he stressed that the group did not want foreign troops or military bases stationed in Afghanistan.
The announcement comes amid reports of growing anti-Taliban resistance in parts of Afghanistan, including Badakhshan, where opposition groups have claimed responsibility for attacks against Taliban positions.
