Dera Ismail Khan, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 2nd Aug, 2026) Rescue 1122 recovered the body of a 17-year-old boy from the Indus River near Thathal following a drowning incident as emergency teams continued intensified patrols and water safety operations across the river during the ongoing monsoon season in Dera Ismail Khan. .
According to a Rescue 1122 spokesman, the victim was identified as Asif, 17, a resident of Dahotra. The drowning incident occurred at a location away from the established Temporary Water Rescue Points (TWRPs) and other sensitive deployment sites. Upon receiving the report, a Rescue 1122 water rescue team immediately rushed to the scene and launched a search and rescue operation, recovering the body from the river.
The spokesman said the intensified safety measures were being implemented on the directives of District Emergency Officer (DEO) Muhammad Arif Khan, under which water rescue teams have been deployed at the Indus River picnic point and other designated Temporary Water Rescue Points, while rescue boats are conducting regular patrols to strengthen emergency preparedness and prevent water-related incidents.
He said Rescue 1122 personnel, in coordination with the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA), were educating visitors about water safety, discouraging unsafe activities and remaining ready to provide an immediate response to any emergency.
District Emergency Officer Muhammad Arif Khan expressed sorrow over the tragic incident and urged the public to avoid bathing or swimming at unguarded locations along the river. He appealed to citizens to cooperate with Rescue 1122, the district administration and police, strictly follow safety instructions while visiting rivers and other water bodies, and immediately call the Rescue 1122 emergency helpline 1122 in case of any emergency.
He reiterated that Rescue 1122 would continue round-the-clock monitoring, water patrols and rescue preparedness throughout the monsoon season to safeguard lives and minimize the risk of drowning incidents.
