Swat District Police Officer (DPO) Umar Gandapur says the suicide blast took place near the entrance of Kabal Police Station, killing police officers and civilians
SWAT: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-August 2nd, 2026) August 2, 2026: At least nine people, including four police personnel, were killed and 18 others injured in a suspected suicide bombing near the main gate of a police station in Kabal, a tourist town in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Swat district, officials said.
Swat District Police Officer (DPO) Umar Gandapur said the explosion occurred near the entrance of Kabal Police Station, killing police officers and civilians.
Malakand Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Syed Fida Hussain said a suicide bomber attempted to enter the police station but was stopped by a police officer at the gate. The attacker then detonated explosives near the entrance.
According to the DIG, a protest by local youths was underway in the area at the time of the blast, but the protest site was located some distance from the explosion.
The police station is located near a police lines facility and other sensitive installations.
Rescue 1122 spokesperson Bilal Ahmed Faizi said rescue teams, ambulances and medical personnel were dispatched immediately after receiving information about the explosion.
He said nine people had been confirmed dead, while more than 15 injured people were shifted to hospitals in Kabal and Saidu Sharif. Rescue and relief operations were continuing.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly condemned the suicide attack and expressed grief over the loss of lives. He extended condolences to the families of those killed and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Naqvi praised the police officers who prevented the attacker from entering the station, saying they sacrificed their lives to protect others and demonstrated exceptional courage and dedication to duty.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi also condemned the blast in strong terms and expressed sorrow over the deaths of police personnel. He paid tribute to the victims and extended condolences to their families.
Kundi said those targeting police officers and disrupting peace did not deserve any leniency. He added that terrorists could not undermine the nation’s resolve through such attacks.
The governor directed the relevant authorities to ensure that all injured people receive immediate and comprehensive medical treatment.
Former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in the blast and offered condolences to the families of the victims, including a police assistant sub-inspector.
He prayed for the forgiveness of the deceased and the speedy recovery of those injured. Gandapur also directed the administration and hospitals to provide timely and the best possible medical care to the injured, stressing that no negligence in their treatment would be tolerated.
He said all available resources should be mobilized to assist the victims and their families during the difficult time.
