Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA) warns that it will stage a sit-in outside the Chief Minister House or the Sindh Secretariat on August 11 if its demands are not met
KARACHI: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-July 31st, 2026) The Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA) on Friday announced a province-wide protest campaign against prolonged delays in the promotion of college teachers.
The SPLA warned that it would stage a sit-in outside the Chief Minister House or the Sindh Secretariat on August 11 if its demands are not met.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the SPLA Central Executive Committee chaired by its President Professor Munawar Abbas.
The presidents, secretaries and office-bearers from all three regional ranges attended the meeting and expressed concern over what they described as growing frustration and disappointment among college teachers and employees across Sindh.
The association said hundreds of posts in Grades 18, 19 and 20 have remained vacant for a long time despite the availability of eligible candidates. It alleged that the Sindh government has delayed the promotion process, depriving teachers of their legitimate career progression.
According to SPLA, many lecturers have not been promoted for the past 14 years. The association also criticised the delay in the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meeting scheduled for July 14 and claimed that assistant professors were being denied promotion to Grade 19 due to delays in finalising seniority lists.
It further alleged that nearly 80 per cent of Grade 20 posts remain vacant, while repeated postponement of the Board-I meeting has stalled promotions to the higher grade.
SPLA leaders said a delegation led by the association’s president would first meet the Secretary of Colleges and other senior officials in an effort to secure the immediate restoration of the promotion process.
If the issue remains unresolved, the association said it will launch a protest movement after colleges reopen. Demonstrations have been scheduled for August 3 in Karachi, August 5 in Hyderabad and August 6 in Sukkur. During the protests, teachers will continue academic activities while wearing black armbands.
The association warned that if its demands are still not accepted, college teachers from across Sindh will stage a sit-in outside the Chief Minister House or the Sindh Secretariat on August 11. It said representatives of civil society and employees’ organisations would also be invited to participate.
The meeting also discussed organisational matters and approved the launch of a new membership drive and unit elections from August in accordance with the association’s constitution. The next meeting of the SPLA Central Executive Committee has been scheduled for August 15 in Sukkur or Karachi.
