Mathira calls for emotionally healthy boys

The TV host and actress often places immense responsibilities on men while discouraging them from showing vulnerability, ultimately affecting their ability to build healthy family relationships

LAHORE: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-July 31st, 2026) Television host and social media personality Mathira has called for a shift in societal attitudes towards men, saying they should be encouraged to express their emotions instead of being burdened with unrealistic expectations.

Speaking during a recent interview, Mathira said society often places immense responsibilities on men while discouraging them from showing vulnerability, ultimately affecting their ability to build healthy family relationships.

“Men also struggle in society. We have turned them into machines by expecting them to shoulder endless responsibilities without allowing them to express their feelings,” she said.

She emphasised that the emotional well-being of boys is largely shaped during childhood, urging parents to teach their sons that expressing emotions is normal. According to her, many men face emotional stress and even depression but hesitate to speak about their feelings because of social stigma.

Mathira maintained that parents—not television or social media—bear the Primary responsibility for raising emotionally aware children. She said families should create a positive environment where children learn empathy, respect and emotional openness from an early age.

The television host added that mothers and wives could play an important role in encouraging emotional intelligence, although she stressed that a child’s upbringing lays the foundation for future behaviour.

Drawing on her own experience as a mother of three sons, Mathira said she encourages her children to speak openly about their emotions and assures them that it is acceptable to cry, feel upset or discuss their problems with family and friends.

She also said she teaches her children to respect women and avoid judging others based on appearances or societal stereotypes. Having raised her sons in a household led by women, she said they understand the challenges women often face in society.

Reflecting on her life as a divorced single mother, Mathira said both men and women should embrace qualities such as empathy, confidence and resilience to build healthier relationships and navigate life’s challenges more effectively.

In addition to her television career, Mathira frequently uses her digital platforms and podcast appearances to discuss social issues and encourage public awareness on a range of topics.
