SKARDU: (UrfuPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-July 31st, 2026) The rescue teams have recovered the bodies of four mountaineers who were buried after an avalanche struck Broad Peak, while search efforts are continuing for six others who remain missing.
The sources at the Broad Peak base camp said that the body of another missing climber was recovered on Friday, bringing the total number of confirmed fatalities to four. Rescue personnel are continuing operations to locate the remaining six climbers.
The avalanche hit a group of climbers on Broad Peak (8,047 metres)—the world’s 12th-highest mountain located in Pakistan’s Gilgit-Baltistan region—on Thursday afternoon.
Among those reported missing are renowned Nepali mountaineer Nirmal ‘Nims’ Purja, popularly known as Nims Dai, and Pakistani climber **Sohail Sakhi. The affected expedition is believed to have included around 10 climbers.
The Alpine Club of Pakistan had earlier confirmed that the avalanche struck the climbing team on Thursday afternoon, adding that contact with the group was lost immediately after the incident.
Officials said the expedition included five Nepali climbers led by Nims Dai.
Rescue teams remain engaged in a challenging search operation as harsh weather and difficult terrain continue to hamper efforts to locate the missing mountaineers.
