HYDERABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 30th Jul, 2026) Eminent writers, intellectuals, researchers and scholars described the great sufi poet as an ambassador of humanity, saying that his philosophy represents the soul, culture and civilizational identity of Sindh and has, for centuries, promoted the values of love, peace, tolerance, brotherhood, truth and high moral character.
They expressed these views while addressing the “Latif Adabi Conference” held in connection with the 283rd annual Urs celebrations of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai (RA).
Sindh minister for culture, tourism, antiquities and archives Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah attended the conference as the chief guest, while University of Sindh’s Vice Chancellor Dr. Fatah Muhammad Mari presided over the event. Renowned scholars and literary figures including Dr. Rukhman Gul Palari, Madad Ali Sindhi, Dr. Suleman Shaikh, Dr. Taj Joyo, Prof. Muhammad Juryal Sangi, Prof. Dr. Shazia Pitafi, Anab Gopang, Prof. Shabnam Gul, Dr. Ali Murad Lanjwani, Dr. Ahsan Danish and Dr. Saeed Hashmi presented research papers highlighting the intellectual, literary and cultural dimensions of Latif’s poetry.
Addressing the gathering, Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah said the Sindh government was taking practical measures every year to provide better facilities to devotees and visitors during the Urs celebrations so that the message of Sindh’s sufi traditions, peace, love and brotherhood could effectively reach guests from across Pakistan and abroad.
He said Sindh had always been a land of peace, tolerance and harmony, adding that the philosophy of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai (RA) teaches humanity the values of love, patience, unity and moral excellence.
He urged writers, intellectuals and academic circles to play an active role in connecting the younger generation with literature, reading and the teachings of Shah Latif. He noted that the trend of reading was declining in the digital age and stressed the need to create more literary and academic opportunities for young people.
During the conference, a scholarly panel discussion titled “The significance of Shah Latif’s poetry in the era of crisis of character and values” was also held. Dr. Noor Ahmed Jinjhi, Dr. Makhmoor Bukhari and Dr. Fayyaz Latif Chandio shared their views, while Dr. Sher Mehrani moderated the session.
The speakers observed that the timeless characters introduced by Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai (RA) continue to inspire Sindh’s social, cultural and moral life. They said his poetry symbolizes truth, loyalty, courage, patience, compassion and noble values, while immortal characters such as Marui, Sassui, Suhni, Noori and Mmomal remain enduring symbols of sacrifice, wisdom, fidelity and human dignity.
They stressed the need to introduce Shah Latif’s philosophy, poetry and teachings to the world through modern technology, digital media, international languages, research projects and quality translations so that younger generations could develop a stronger connection with the great sufi poet, the Sindhi language, folk literature and the region’s cultural heritage.
The participants also urged the government and academic, literary and cultural institutions to support research on Shah Latif, organize international conferences, literary festivals and cultural programs and promote quality translations to further disseminate his universal message across the globe.
