LAHORE, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 30th Jul, 2026) Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Central Punjab has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic roof collapse incident in Baghbanpura that claimed at least 10 lives on Thursday.
PPP Central Punjab General Secretary Syed Hassan Murtaza visited the affected area immediately after the incident and expressed solidarity with the bereaved families while speaking to the media. PPP leaders Ahsan Rizvi and Malik Imran Khokhar also accompanied him during the visit.
Hassan Murtaza said the party shared the grief of the affected families and expressed profound sorrow over the deaths of children, women and elderly people. He said this was a time to stand with the victims rather than engage in politics, stressing the need for accountability and reforms to prevent similar tragedies.
He called for answers from the Building Department and other relevant institutions, questioning who had granted permission for unsafe buildings.
He demanded a thorough investigation into the incident and urged the authorities to fix responsibility.
Highlighting the challenges faced during the rescue operation, Hassan Murtaza said narrow streets had hampered rescue efforts and warned that several other buildings in the area were also at risk of collapse.
He urged the government to immediately conduct a comprehensive survey of dangerous buildings across the city, saying negligence in such matters was unacceptable. He maintained that the purpose of raising these issues was to identify shortcomings and ensure corrective measures, adding that the responsible institutions must fulfill their duties while providing relief to the affected families and taking concrete steps to prevent such incidents in the future.
