ISLAMABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 31st Jul, 2026) The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Thursday forecast rain-wind/thundershowers, with isolated heavy to very heavy falls, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, upper and central Punjab, northeast Balochistan and Kashmir.
While hot and humid weather is expected to persist in the southern parts of the country.
The department warned that heavy rainfall during July 30 and 31 could trigger urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, the Pothohar region, Peshawar, Nowshera, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Lahore and Faisalabad.
It said landslides were likely in vulnerable hilly areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Buner, Battagram, Mansehra, Shangla and Abbottabad, as well as Murree, Galliyat and Kashmir.
The PMD further cautioned that heavy rains could generate flash floods in local streams and nullahs of Kashmir, Murree, Galliyat, northeastern Punjab, Islamabad, the Pothohar region, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan and northeastern Balochistan during the forecast period.
It also warned that strong winds, heavy rainfall and lightning might damage vulnerable structures, including solar panels, electricity poles and billboards.
According to the forecast, Islamabad and adjoining areas are likely to experience partly cloudy weather with rain and thunderstorms, accompanied by isolated heavy falls.
Similar weather, with scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall, is expected in several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.
In Sindh, mainly hot and humid weather is expected, although light rain or drizzle may occur in coastal areas. Balochistan is likely to remain hot to very hot, with isolated rain and thunderstorms expected in Zhob, Musakhel, Barkhan, Khuzdar and surrounding areas during the afternoon.
Cloudy weather with rain and thunderstorms, including isolated heavy falls, is forecast for Kashmir, while Gilgit-Baltistan is expected to remain partly cloudy.
During the past 24 hours, rain with isolated heavy falls was recorded in Kashmir, northeast Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan, while hot and humid weather prevailed across most other parts of the country.
The highest rainfall was recorded in Muzaffarabad Airport (98 mm), Gujranwala (94 mm), Sialkot city (74 mm), Murree (74 mm), Jhelum (64 mm) and Golra, Islamabad (63 mm).
The highest maximum temperature recorded in the country was 45 degrees Celsius in Sibbi, Turbat and Dalbandin, followed by 44 degrees Celsius in Nokkundi.
