
The documents reveal that the total amount included Rs351 billion in sales tax and Rs124 billion in income tax collected from electricity consumers across the country
ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint /UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-July 30th, 2026) The Federal board of Revenue (FBR) collected more than Rs476 billion in taxes through electricity bills during the fiscal year 2025-26, a local private tv reported while citing official documents submitted to the Senate Standing Committee on Finance.
The documents reveal that the total amount included Rs351 billion in sales tax and Rs124 billion in income tax collected from electricity consumers across the country.
Compared with previous years, the FBR had collected Rs562 billion through electricity bills in FY2024-25, Rs515 billion in FY2023-24, and Rs313 billion in FY2022-23.
According to the documents, Rs66 billion in withholding income tax was collected from industrial consumers, while commercial consumers contributed Rs52 billion.
Non-filer domestic consumers paid Rs4.82 billion, and other residential consumers paid Rs1.37 billion under Section 235A of the Income Tax Ordinance.
The breakdown of the Rs351 billion in sales tax shows that Rs269 billion was collected under the standard sales tax regime, Rs55 billion as additional sales tax, and Rs16.5 billion from retailers through electricity bills.
The figures were presented before the Senate Standing Committee on Finance as part of the FBR’s revenue performance for the last fiscal year.
