KOHAT, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 30th Jul, 2026) Ten police personnel, including a senior police officer, were killed in a militant attack on a police check post in Hangu district, the police said on Thursday.
The added the militants attacked the Khazina Banda check post before ambushing a police reinforcement convoy heading to the area.
Deputy Superintendent, Police (DSP), Diyar Khan, who was leading the reinforcement team, was among the martyred .
The police said the attackers first targeted the check post before laying an ambush near the Khazina Banda bridge, where they opened fire on the responding police vehicle.
The police team returned fire before being overwhelmed in the attack.
The police officials said eight militants were killed during the exchange of fire.
The funeral prayers for the slain officers were held with full state honours at the Police Lines in Hangu. Senior civil and police officials, security personnel and local elders attended the ceremony, where floral wreaths were laid on the coffins.
The bodies of the officials were later sent to their hometowns for burial with official honours.
