The price of petrol has been reduced by Rs0.75 per litre, bringing the new rate to Rs335.06 per litre
ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-July 29th, 2026) The Federal government on Wednesday announced a slight reduction in the price of petrol while increasing the rate of high-speed diesel (HSD) under its daily fuel price adjustment mechanism.
A notification issued by the Ministry of Petroleum said that the price of petrol has been reduced by Rs0.75 per litre, bringing the new rate to Rs335.06 per litre. Meanwhile, the price of high-speed diesel has been increased by Rs2.24 per litre, taking it to Rs390.62 per litre. The revised prices will take effect from July 30.
The latest revision comes just a day after the government increased petrol and diesel prices by Rs1.63 and Rs1.55 per litre, respectively.
Pakistan introduced a daily petroleum pricing mechanism on July 17 to respond more quickly to fluctuations in international oil markets. Under the new system, fuel prices are calculated using the average international market rates over the previous seven days.
Throughout July, petroleum prices underwent several revisions. Overall, petrol prices increased by more than Rs20 per litre during the month, while diesel prices also registered a substantial rise. Officials attributed the adjustments to changes in global crude oil prices, exchange rate fluctuations and higher import costs.
The Ministry of Petroleum said the daily pricing mechanism is designed to align domestic fuel prices with international market trends, Currency movements and import expenses. However, energy experts have stressed that while price increases are reflected immediately, reductions should also be passed on to consumers without delay to ensure transparency and maintain public confidence.
Pakistan currently relies on commercial fuel stocks maintained by oil marketing companies, refineries and imported cargoes, as the country does not possess strategic petroleum reserves capable of meeting demand for an extended period.
