PESHAWAR, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 9th May, 2026) The provincial metropolis was currently grappling with an intense heatwave driven by effects of climate change, resulting in a surge of medical emergencies across the city.
On Saturday, hospitals reported a significant influx of patients suffering from gastroenteritis, heatstroke, and diarrhea as soaring temperatures began to take a severe toll on public health.
Dozens of individuals, including several children, reportedly fainted due to extreme conditions, requiring immediate medical intervention. The heat has effectively paralyzed city during peak hours, leaving major markets deserted and significantly disrupting local business activities as citizens remain confined to their homes to escape the sun.
The crisis has been further compounded by widespread announced and unannounced electricity load shedding, which has left residents without power during hottest parts of the day. This lack of cooling has severely impacted both domestic life and commercial sector.
In response to escalating situation, medical experts have issued urgent advisories urging citizens to avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure and to prioritize hydration through consumption of water and cold beverages.
Health professionals are particularly emphasizing need for extra vigilance in caring for elderly and young children, who are most vulnerable to current extreme weather conditions.
