PFA Discards 300 Litres Substandard Ketchup

KHANEWAL, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 5th May, 2026) The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) carried out two major enforcement operations in Jahanian, District Khanewal, seizing and destroying large quantities of adulterated food items and banned substances.

According to a PFA spokesperson, food safety teams inspected two outlets located at Gol Chowk and the Bypass area. During the raids, officials confiscated and disposed of more than 300 litres of substandard ketchup and mayonnaise, along with 500 sachets of prohibited gutka.

The inspections uncovered serious violations, including the use of low-quality ingredients in mayonnaise, absence of proper labeling, and missing expiry dates on finished products—posing significant health risks to consumers.

Director General Syed Musa Raza ordered strict legal action against those responsible. An FIR was registered against the owner of a pan shop following the recovery of banned gutka, while the ketchup production unit was sealed for failing to meet mandatory food safety and hygiene standards.

All contaminated items were destroyed on the spot.

Reaffirming the authority’s commitment, the DG PFA stated that strict monitoring of food production and supply chains would continue, warning that adulteration and counterfeit practices will not be tolerated.
