KARACHI: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-April 27th, 2026) Karachi continues to face prolonged and unannounced power outages despite the induction of new management at K-Electric, with residents reporting no significant improvement in electricity supply.
The power utility has increased the duration of load-shedding across multiple areas of the city without prior notice. In several localities, outages have extended by an additional four to six hours.
Even areas previously declared exempt from load-shedding are now experiencing power cuts ranging from three to five hours, reportedly under the pretext of maintenance work.
Neighbourhoods including North Karachi, Shadman Town, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulshan-e-Memar and other residential societies are witnessing two to four hours of outages. Meanwhile, areas already affected by load-shedding are facing power cuts lasting three to five hours, occurring up to four times a day.
In several localities such as Khawaja Ajmer Nagri, Nusrat Bhutto Colony, Orangi, Railway Colony, Liaquatabad, Mahmoodabad, Manzoor Colony, Saudabad, Malir Khokhrapar, Korangi, New Karachi, Taiser Town, Khuda Ki Basti, Quetta Town, Ahsanabad, Kathore and Gadap Town, electricity supply remains suspended for as long as 15 to 20 hours daily.
Residents have complained that in some areas electricity is supplied for only one hour followed by an hour-long outage cycle, leaving them with limited access to power.
Consumers have expressed frustration, stating that out of 24 hours, they receive electricity for only around four hours, while load-shedding continues for up to 20 hours, severely disrupting daily life.
