ISLAMABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 27th Apr, 2026) The district and sessions court of Islamabad on Monday heard a post-arrest bail request of senior journalist Fakhar Rehman in a case registered under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) over a post on X.
Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah conducted the hearing. Barrister Ahad Khokhar appeared on behalf of the journalist and presented his arguments before the court.
The defence lawyer said that according to the report of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), the mobile phone linked to the case had already been recovered. He told the court that the accused is an elderly person and is taking regular medication.
He argued that the accused did not express his own views but only shared a statement made by a religious scholar on X. He also said that the First Information Report (FIR) does not clearly define the role of the accused in the alleged offence. The defence requested the court to grant bail, stating that the case has no solid basis.
The prosecution opposed the bail request. The prosecutor argued that similar posts had caused unrest in Skardu in the past. The prosecution requested that the court reject the bail plea.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court reserved its decision.
