LAHORE, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 26th Apr, 2026) Under the “Drug-Free Punjab” vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Police have intensified their province-wide crackdown against narcotics, arresting 15,453 drug dealers so far this year and registering 15,535 cases.
According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, the ongoing operations are being carried out on the directions of Inspector General of Police Punjab Abdul Kareem, targeting major drug dealers and smugglers across the province.
During these operations, police recovered 8,434 kilograms of charas, 935 kilograms of heroin, 459 kilograms of ice, 488 kilograms of opium, and over 219,000 litres of liquor from the possession of the accused.
In Lahore, police arrested 1,852 drug dealers during the same period and registered 1,803 cases. The recoveries in the provincial capital included 630 kilograms of charas, 68 kilograms of heroin, 157 kilograms of ice, 6 kilograms of opium, and 10,777 litres of liquor.
IG Punjab Abdul Kareem directed that all individuals involved in the drug supply chain must be brought to justice and awarded strict punishment. He further ordered that operations against drug peddlers operating around educational institutions and hostels be intensified, along with strict action against those involved in the online sale and purchase of narcotics.
