ISLAMABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 9th May, 2026) Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) has intensified operations of the Haramain High-Speed Railway for the Hajj 1447 AH season, providing more than 2.21 million seats through over 5,300 trips to facilitate pilgrims’ movement between Makkah and Madinah.
According to SPA, the Haramain High-Speed Railway in Madinah serves as a major part of Saudi Arabia’s transport and logistics network, linking directly with King Abdulaziz International Airport and other transport systems to improve traffic flow and enhance pilgrims’ travel experience from arrival until departure.
The Madinah station is currently witnessing peak operations as pilgrims arrive in the holy city while others depart for Makkah to perform Hajj rituals amid increasing passenger volumes during the season.
SAR spokesperson Khalid Al-Farhan said the railway’s operational plan includes services connecting the main stations in Makkah, Jeddah, King Abdulaziz International Airport and King Abdullah Economic City.
He said the operating fleet consists of 35 trains, each capable of carrying up to 417 passengers, adding that the Haramain train is among the fastest in the world with speeds reaching 300 kilometers per hour.
Al-Farhan said the railway reduces travel time between Makkah and Madinah to around two hours and 15 minutes, significantly improving transport efficiency between the two holy cities during Hajj.
He added that daily trips during peak days will exceed 140, while trains at Madinah station will arrive or depart every 25 to 30 minutes to meet rising demand and ensure smooth movement of pilgrims.
The integrated operation of the Haramain High-Speed Railway reflects Saudi Arabia’s broader efforts to provide safe, fast and efficient transport services for pilgrims in line with the growing number of Hajj visitors.
