Shakira returns with FIFA World Cup 2026 anthem

The singer has shared a teaser of the upcoming track, titled “Dai Dai”, on her social media accounts.

NEW YORK: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-May 8th, 2026) Internationally acclaimed Colombian singer Shakira has once again joined the FIFA World Cup spotlight, as the teaser of her new official song for the FIFA World Cup 2026 sparked excitement among football and music fans worldwide.

Shakira shared a teaser of the upcoming track, titled “Dai Dai”, on her social media accounts. The song features collaboration with Nigerian singer Burna Boy and is expected to be released in full on May 14.

The music video was filmed at the iconic Maracanã Stadium, where Shakira appears alongside colourful dancers wearing jerseys inspired by different national football teams, reflecting the global spirit of the World Cup.

The teaser quickly gained massive attention online, attracting millions of views on Instagram and other social media platforms. Fans said the clip revived memories of previous World Cup anthems associated with Shakira.

Shakira has maintained a long-standing association with FIFA World Cup events. Her 2010 World Cup song Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) became a global hit and is still regarded among the most memorable World Cup songs ever produced.

She had earlier performed Hips Don’t Lie during activities linked to the 2006 World Cup and later released La La La (Brazil 2014) for the 2014 tournament.

The new teaser also includes visuals of official FIFA World Cup footballs from past tournaments, seen as a tribute to Shakira’s long connection with football’s biggest global event.

Social media users described her return as “iconic”, with many commenting that the World Cup feels incomplete without Shakira’s music. Some fans jokingly suggested that FIFA should permanently assign World Cup songs to the singer.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 will be jointly hosted by United States, Mexico and Canada from June 11 to July 19, 2026.

The opening match is scheduled to take place at Estadio Azteca, while the final will be played at MetLife Stadium.

FIFA is also expected to introduce a Super Bowl-style halftime show for the first time during the tournament, with musical direction reportedly being overseen by Chris Martin of Coldplay. Experts believe the 2026 World Cup could become a major celebration of both football and global pop culture.
