Tensions escalated on May 6–7 last year after India levelled unsubstantiated allegations against Pakistan in connection with an incident in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir
ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-May 7th, 2026) The military has warned that any future aggression will be met with an even more forceful response, as Pakistan observed the first anniversary of Marka-e-Haq, a military standoff last year with India.
The tensions escalated on May 6–7 last year after India levelled unsubstantiated allegations against Pakistan in connection with an incident in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. In response, India launched military action which Pakistan countered with full force.
The 80-plus hour confrontation ended on May 10 following diplomatic intervention by the United States. During the conflict, several Indian aircraft and drones were reportedly downed, while Pakistan projected itself as a “net regional stabiliser”.
In a statement issued on the occasion, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said Pakistan Armed Forces, particularly the Pakistan Air Force (PAF), were commemorating a landmark moment in the country’s military history.
The ISPR stated that the episode reinforced national confidence, strengthened institutional resolve, and highlighted the PAF’s ongoing modernization and capability enhancement efforts. It added that the force has been adopting advanced systems and operational technologies to remain prepared for modern multi-domain warfare.
The military’s media wing said the PAF continues to evolve into a future-ready air power, capable of defending Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in line with changing warfare dynamics. It added that the operation demonstrated professional excellence and boosted national morale.
The statement further reiterated that Pakistan is a peace-oriented country and its armed forces follow a responsible strategic doctrine focused on regional stability. It said all defence preparations are aimed at maintaining peace, while ensuring readiness against any threat.
The ISPR also noted that Pakistan Armed Forces remain fully aware of evolving regional security challenges and continue to enhance their operational capabilities through advanced technology and training.
It said any hostile action against Pakistan would be met with a “stronger, precise and decisive response” than before, reaffirming the military’s resolve to defend the country under all circumstances.
Tribute was also paid to Pakistan Air Force personnel for their role in defending the country’s airspace, with the ISPR describing their performance as a key factor in the success of Marka-e-Haq.
A central ceremony was held at Air Headquarters to mark the anniversary.
Addressing the event in Islamabad, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu congratulated PAF personnel and reiterated that Pakistan had responded firmly to what he described as baseless allegations and aggression. He said the PAF had effectively countered enemy actions and caused significant damage to opposing military capabilities.
He added that the air force had demonstrated superiority across multiple domains, including cyber and electronic warfare, and claimed operational successes against key enemy installations.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, in his statement, said Marka-e-Haq symbolised national unity, resilience, and resolve. He said Pakistan’s response last year was measured, lawful, and based on international principles.
He noted that Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos reflected Pakistan’s right to self-defence under the UN Charter and credited military leadership for coordinated planning across air, land, and maritime domains.
Dar added that Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts during the crisis helped present its position effectively at global forums. He reiterated that Pakistan seeks peace but will not compromise on sovereignty or territorial integrity.
He further said lasting peace in South Asia depends on resolving core disputes, including Jammu and Kashmir, in accordance with UN resolutions and the aspirations of its people.
The statement concluded that Marka-e-Haq serves as a reminder of national unity and the need to build a stronger Pakistan across defence, economic, and social sectors.
