An anti-corruption court on Wednesday adjourned proceedings in a corruption case pertaining to mines and minerals contracts against former Punjab Assembly speaker Sabtain Khan and other accused till June 11, directing counsel to complete arguments on pending applications at the next hearing
LAHORE, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 6th May, 2026) An anti-corruption court on Wednesday adjourned proceedings in a corruption case pertaining to mines and minerals contracts against former Punjab Assembly speaker Sabtain Khan and other accused till June 11, directing counsel to complete arguments on pending applications at the next hearing.
The case was heard by Anti-Corruption Court Judge Muhammad Jameel. The accused, including Sabtain Khan, appeared before the court to mark attendance.
During proceedings, the court sought arguments on an application filed by Sabtain Khan requesting re-investigation and challenging the court’s jurisdiction. The defence contended that the reference had been directly transferred from a NAB court to the anti-corruption court, arguing that the Anti-Corruption Department must first conduct a fresh investigation and submit a challan before trial can proceed.
The court also took up a plea for acquittal filed by co-accused and former Planning and Development chairman Salman Ghani. However, his counsel sought time for arguments, prompting the court to adjourn the matter.
According to the reference, Sabtain Khan is accused of awarding mines and minerals contracts to favoured individuals during his tenure as provincial minister. Other accused in the case include former Mines and Minerals Secretary Imtiaz Ahmed Cheema, former P&D chairman Salman Ghani, and Chief Inspector Mines Punjab Abdul Sattar.
