PU’s 19th National Training Workshop Concludes


LAHORE, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 2nd May, 2026) Punjab University (PU) Institute of Zoology has successfully concluded its 19th National Hands-on Training Workshop titled “Skills for the Future – Integrating Modern Beekeeping into Productive Agriculture”, bringing together 105 participants from diverse academic, industrial, and professional backgrounds.

The four-day intensive training programme was attended by representatives from the Punjab University Institute of Zoology and Faculty of Agriculture, the Virtual University of Pakistan, University of education, University of Sialkot, Hidaya Trust Sindh, Himalayan Wellness Company, along with practicing beekeepers from across the country, said a press release issued on Saturday.

Participants were provided comprehensive training in bee health management, pest control, environmental impacts on honeybee populations, and the development of value-added bee products aimed at supporting entrepreneurial ventures. A major highlight of the workshop was its extensive hands-on training component, which included hive inspection, apiary management, queen rearing, larval grafting techniques, use of modern beekeeping equipment, preparation of honey-based medicinal and cosmetic products, and field visits to operational apiaries.

The workshop also featured expert lectures on fundamental and applied apiculture, its agricultural significance, and the adverse effects of environmental pollutants on honeybee health. These sessions offered participants a balanced combination of theoretical understanding and practical exposure.

Participants lauded the efforts of workshop organizer Prof Dr Abdul Majid Khan for successfully conducting the programme. Faculty members of the Institute of Zoology also played an active role in facilitating the training sessions, while guests appreciated the initiative for contributing to sustainable agriculture and capacity building in Pakistan.

Speaking at the concluding ceremony, Director Institute of Zoology Prof Dr Nabila Roohi emphasized the need to integrate modern beekeeping practices into agricultural systems to enhance productivity and ensure environmental sustainability. She stated that such initiatives are vital for strengthening apiculture-based livelihoods, promoting environmental awareness, and advancing sustainable agricultural practices across the country.
