Day To Reaffirm Commitment To Workers Welfare

LARKANA, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 2nd May, 2026) Around the world, May 01, is observed as International Workers’ Day. It is not merely a ritual or a holiday but a symbol of the working class’s sacrifices, struggles, and ongoing fight for their rights.

This day reminds us that the progress of society, the strength of the economy, and the prosperity of a nation rest on the shoulders of those workers who toil day and night to keep the wheels of life moving.

The date of May 01, takes us back to the great movement of 1886, when workers in Chicago, USA, raised their voices for their basic rights — specifically, an eight-hour workday. During this struggle, several workers laid down their lives. In memory of those sacrifices, this day continues to be observed worldwide. It teaches us that rights are never obtained by simply asking — they are achieved through struggle.

In developing countries like Pakistan, the working class still faces countless problems. Inflation, low wages, long working hours, lack of healthcare facilities, and the absence of social security are issues that make workers’ lives difficult. Whether they are industrial laborers, construction workers, domestic staff, or farmworkers — all suffer from similar hardships.

Unfortunately, in our society, workers do not receive the respect and status they deserve. Often, they are treated like machines, while their rights, feelings, and needs are ignored. This is why May 1st makes us realize that we need to change our attitudes and give workers their rightful place.

It is the government’s responsibility to enact effective laws to protect workers’ rights and ensure their implementation. Minimum wage laws must be strictly enforced. Workers should be provided with social security, health insurance, and pension benefits. At the same time, trade unions should be strengthened so that workers can raise their voices effectively for their rights.

On the other hand, the private sector and industrialists must also stop viewing workers merely as means of production and instead respect them as human beings. A better work environment, fair wages, and opportunities for growth not only improve workers’ lives but also enhance an organization’s performance.

We must also understand that workers’ welfare is not solely the government’s or institutions’ responsibility — it is a collective duty. Every individual should treat the workers around them well, care for their rights, and respect them.

May 01, offers us an opportunity to pledge that we will build a society where labor is valued, workers receive their due rights, and everyone has the chance to live with dignity. If we truly wish to become a prosperous and developed nation, we must strengthen our working class, for it is the foundation on which the edifice of progress stands.

In conclusion, May 01,is not just a day — it is a message: a message of hard work, justice, and equality. Let us all come together to give practical shape to this message and play our part in the welfare of workers.
