
Anti-Quackery Department (AQD) says to date, PHC has sealed around 69,500 illegal businesses of quacks, while more than 30,600 quacks have abandoned their outlets as a result of sustained enforcement
LAHORE: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-April 28th, 2026) The Punjab Healthcare Commission (PHC) is close to completing inspections of all allopathic healthcare establishments (HCEs) in the province, after a fivefold increase in inspection activities to more than 18,500 visits during the current fiscal year.
This was disclosed in a high-level review meeting, chaired by the Chairperson of the PHC board of Commissioners (BoC) Major Azam Suleman Khan (retd). The meeting was attended by BoC members Ms Perveen Agha, Prof Dr Mehmood Shoukat, Prof Dr Nauman Tarif, Mr Salman Ghani and Prof Dr Saeed Ahmad. PHC Chief Executive Officer Dr Muhammad Saqib Aziz and senior officials of the Commission also participated in the session, which focused on the Board’s reform agenda and the performance of inspections and anti-quackery teams.
During the briefing, the directorates and departments concerned presented detailed updates on inspection drives and anti-quackery enforcement measures. The participants were informed that the cumulative number of inspections has risen fivefold during the current fiscal year, surpassing 18,500 visits, enabling the Commission to reach almost all allopathic HCEs in line with the Board’s vision and the PHC’s statutory mandate.
The Anti-Quackery Department (AQD) further reported that, to date, the PHC has sealed around 69,500 illegal businesses of quacks, while more than 30,600 quacks have abandoned their outlets as a result of sustained enforcement.
These outcomes are based on 247,876 raids conducted by the enforcement teams since 2015.
The Chairperson and Board members commended the Inspections Directorate and AQD for significantly expanding its outreach and maintaining a strong presence in both urban and rural areas.
They described this milestone as a concrete step towards strengthening regulatory oversight and ensuring that patients across the province have access to safe, quality healthcare services. With regard to the anti-quackery crackdown, the Chairperson directed the Department to conduct more targeted operations against violators, and instructed the PHC administration to further increase the number and capacity of enforcement teams.
Major Azam Suleman Khan (retd) reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to sustaining rigorous inspection and anti quackery operations.
He emphasised that continuous monitoring, firm action against violators, and strict adherence to the minimum service delivery standards (MSDS) are essential for protecting patients’ rights and their safety.
