MIRPUR (AJK) , (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point news – 27th Apr, 2026) The authorities in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) imposed heavy fines on registered mobile food distributors for supplying substandard food items and violating standard operating procedures (SOPs), the officials sources said on Monday.
The action was taken by the AJK Food Authority during a surprise inspection conducted along the Mangla-Mirpur Highway at Chitterpari, a key entry point to the lake district.
According to an official spokesperson, the operation was launched to ensure the availability of safe and quality food for the public.
A special checkpoint was established at Chattarpadi Chungi, where food consignments being transported into the city were thoroughly examined.
A team led by District Food Controller, Syed Adnan Ali Naqvi carried out the inspections, reviewing multiple aspects of food safety compliance.
These included manufacturing and expiry dates, labeling, temperature control, storage conditions, and adherence to SOPs during transportation.
The officials also verified the registration status of distributors, permits issued by the Food Authority, quality assurance documentation, and laboratory testing certificates.
The Food Authority reiterated its commitment to maintaining food safety standards and urged the public to report any substandard or suspicious food products through its helpline, 1280, to enable prompt action.
