LAHORE: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-April 25th, 2026) The University of Health Sciences (UHS), and the Royal College of Physicians (RCP), London, discussed a broad collaboration framework on Saturday covering international accreditation of MD, MS postgraduate programmes, establishment of a future MRCP examination site at UHS, engagement of UK examiners for quality assurance, and joint work in specialist training and curriculum development.
The proposals came under discussion during a meeting between UHS Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Nadia Naseem and Prof Mumtaz Patel, President of the Royal College of Physicians in London. Prof Patel, a distinguished clinician and medical educator, is the first Muslim woman to serve as president of the institution.
According to a UHS spokesperson, during the meeting, UHS shared details of its centrally governed examination system, structured curriculum and closely monitored logbook-based training model, which university officials said had been developed in line with international standards.
The two sides identified several areas of mutual interest, including pathways for international accreditation or endorsement of UHS postgraduate programmes, engagement of Royal College examiners for assessment, audit and quality assurance, and the potential development of UHS as a future examination centre for the Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians (MRCP).
They also discussed collaboration in curriculum development and specialty training, particularly in nephrology, besides academic linkages between UHS Specialty Advisory Committees and UK experts.
The meeting further reviewed opportunities to strengthen postgraduate MS/MD programmes and Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) Level III and IV specialisation pathways.
According to UHS spokesperson, Prof Patel appreciated the structured academic framework of UHS and expressed willingness to explore the proposals further. She suggested preparation of a formal roadmap and broader engagement with other Royal Colleges in the United Kingdom for future consideration.
