The United States has permanently gained security authority over Greenland, while rival countries will not be allowed to establish bases there; Washington will build a major military base in Greenland, Donald Trump says.
WASHINGTON, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 19th Sep, 2026) US President Donald Trump formally announced the conclusion of a historic and final agreement with Denmark and Greenland, saying the deal has granted the United States permanent and final authority over security and all other necessary matters in Greenland.
According to international media, President Trump issued a statement in this regard, saying the development had completely addressed all of the United States’ security concerns regarding Greenland.
He said the most important aspect was that the arrangements would impose no financial burden on the United States.
Providing details, the US president said American officials had secured a guarantee together with representatives of Denmark and Greenland that the United States would have permanent full authority to take measures necessary to defend the security of Greenland and the United States.
From now on, no US rival or hostile country would be allowed to establish a military base, maintain a military presence or make any sensitive investment in Greenland without written US permission.
Donald Trump described the agreement as historic, saying that for more than 100 years all US presidents had been well aware of Greenland’s immense strategic and defensive importance, but none had been able to make practical progress on the matter.
He said he had become the first president to resolve the issue permanently and finally. He called it an open-ended agreement with no expiry date, adding that the American people would remember this historic achievement forever.
Outlining the immediate steps following the agreement, the US president announced that the United States was immediately beginning work to build a large military base and expand its military presence in suitable and strategic areas of Greenland.
He said constructive and development projects would be carried out in cooperation with Greenland’s local population, adding that the United States would fully protect the grand and strategic region, which he described as the fulfilment of a dream for US defence history.
