In a post on X, Jemima Goldsmith said this was why the Jewish community had never recognised her as Jewish. She said her mother was a Protestant member of the Church of England, while her father’s mother was French Catholic.
Commenting on the defence minister’s statement, she said that, as always, in an attempt to demean her sons, Pakistan’s defence minister had once again embarrassed himself.
He said that if a person’s mother is Jewish, that person is considered Jewish, regardless of the father’s religion.
Khawaja Asif had further said that this principle was linked to the historical belief that a person’s maternal lineage was more reliably known in the past, whereas paternity could not always be verified and DNA testing was not available at the time.
