ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 17th Sep, 2026) The police detained Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central Secretary-General and renowned lawyer Salman Akram Raja, with PTI leader Shaukat Basra and Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Aain Pakistan spokesperson Ikhwanzada Hussain Yousafzai formally confirming his arrest.
According to PTI leader Ikhwanzada Hussain Yousafzai, Salman Akram Raja was arrested within the jurisdiction of Nilore Police Station in Islamabad while returning after attending the funeral of Ijaz Satti.
Salman Akram Raja had travelled specifically to Kotli Sattian to attend the funeral, and police detained him after stopping his vehicle in the Nilore area during his return journey.
Other PTI leaders, including Shaukat Basra, have strongly condemned Salman Akram Raja’s arrest.
PTI said that detaining a senior politician and lawyer after he had performed a religious and moral obligation such as attending a funeral was a severe example of political victimisation.
