Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Shafi Jan said Chief Minister Sohail Afridi had kept the fake Form 47 rulers awake, while the street movement continued successfully despite oppression and coercion.
LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 16th Sep, 2026) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Shafi Jan said the September 27 long march would serve as a public referendum against the prevailing unconstitutional, undemocratic and authoritarian style of governance, adding that Chief Minister Sohail Afridi had kept the fake Form 47 rulers awake.
He said the Punjab government’s tactics during the street movement led by Chief Minister Sohail Afridi were condemnable.
Despite oppression, coercion, arrests of workers and other tactics, he said, the street movement was continuing successfully.
A night earlier, security staff arrested an armed man near Chief Minister Sohail Afridi.
The man was carrying a pistol and, according to Shafi Jan, had targeted the chief minister.
He said electricity was cut off wherever the chief minister went. Electricity was disconnected at the residence arranged for him in Sialkot, while generators were also damaged.
In Wazirabad, a railway crossing on the chief minister’s route was closed, and the DPO took away its key.
Shafi Jan said the Punjab police’s closure of business centres and markets was evidence of the government’s fear and confusion.
He alleged that the Punjab police had created a curfew-like situation in the province, calling the Punjab government’s illegal actions the worst example of fascism and political victimisation.
He said the use of illegal tactics against the chief minister elected by 45 million people was an open insult to the public mandate.
The people of Lahore and Sialkot, he added, had confronted police action on the streets and sent a clear message that they stood firmly with Imran Khan.
Shafi Jan said the September 27 long march would serve as a public referendum against the current unconstitutional, undemocratic and authoritarian system of governance.
He said peaceful political struggle would continue for Imran Khan’s release, restoration of the public mandate, and supremacy of the Constitution and law.
He added that the September 27 long march would write a new chapter of peaceful political struggle across Punjab and the country.
