GUJRANWALA, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 16th Sep, 2026) A rickshaw driver accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting an 8-year-old special-needs girl during school pick-and-drop services was killed after being hit by firing from his own armed accomplice during an alleged police encounter within the jurisdiction of Sadar Police Station, Gujranwala.
According to police sources, suspect Rashid, who was wanted in a serious sexual assault case involving the innocent child, was attempting to flee while allegedly firing indiscriminately at a police party along with an unidentified armed accomplice.
During the exchange of fire, the suspect was critically wounded after being hit by a bullet fired by his own accomplice and later died.
Illegal weapons and a motorcycle rickshaw were recovered from the deceased suspect, while his armed accomplice escaped the scene under cover of darkness.

Upon receiving information about the incident, City Police Officer (CPO) Gujranwala Dr Sardar Ghiyas Gul Khan took immediate notice and sought a detailed report from the divisional SP. Special police teams were formed under the supervision of the SDPO Peoples Colony to arrest the fleeing suspect, while a citywide blockade and search operation are under way.
In a statement, CPO Dr Sardar Ghiyas Gul Khan said no leniency would be shown to elements involved in crimes against women and children, adding that the police would use all available resources to eliminate anti-social elements.
