A drone attempting to enter Makkah’s airspace was destroyed, Saudi-led coalition military spokesman says.
RIYADH, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 16th Sep, 2026) Saudi Arabia’s Saudi-led international military coalition has announced that the country’s air defense systems successfully destroyed in midair a Houthi explosive drone attempting to enter the sacred airspace over Makkah in a major operation.
According to Arab media, the Saudi-led coalition described the incident as an extremely serious development by Yemen’s Houthi rebels.
In an emergency statement, the coalition said the protection and sanctity of the Two Holy Mosques and all sacred sites constituted an inviolable red line for Saudi Arabia and allied forces, and that no compromise would be made on the matter.
The statement further said this was the second failed attempt by the Houthis to target Makkah.
It added that all necessary military and defensive measures would be taken immediately against the Houthis in response. The statement said the main objective of the cowardly attack was to spread fear, panic and insecurity among the millions of Muslim pilgrims who had come to Makkah from around the world to worship and perform Umrah.
It said the Houthi militia’s actions exposed its extremist agenda, while Saudi air defenses and armed forces remained fully alert and prepared to defend all holy sites and civilians.
