LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 15th Sep, 2026) Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that democracy is not merely a political system but a continuous journey aimed at ensuring the active participation of the people in the process of development.
In her message on Democracy Day, Maryam Nawaz said the day provides an opportunity to highlight the importance of democratic values and efforts to establish a balanced welfare society.
She said conscious and informed citizens, honest leadership and the rule of law are of fundamental importance for the success of democracy, while accountability is an important pillar of the democratic system.
The Punjab chief minister said the government remains committed to taking indiscriminate action against corrupt elements and that an organized campaign against corruption is continuing in Punjab.
Maryam Nawaz said the supremacy of the Constitution is the spirit of democracy, while an active civil society and effective institutions are indispensable for promoting and strengthening democratic traditions.
She also termed tolerance, reconciliation and the continuity of parliamentary traditions essential for the promotion of democratic values.
The Punjab chief minister said democracy is the only path to achieving political, economic and social stability.
