New subscriptions, online bookings and SIM issuance have been halted, while existing users have been given time to transfer their services.
ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 15th Sep, 2026) The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has ordered Pak Telecom Mobile Limited (PTML) to immediately shut down all operations of its digital telecom service, Onic.
The PTA has banned the issuance and activation of new SIMs and eSIMs, marketing and all commercial activities related to the service. According to reports, the PTA stated in its decision that the services provided by Onic fall within the legal framework of a mobile virtual network operator.
The authority has issued clear and final instructions to PTML, the company operating Ufone, to completely shut down Onic in its current legal and commercial form.
Following the order, no new Onic subscriptions, online bookings or eSIMs will be issued.
The PTA has also prepared an interim relief plan to protect Onic’s thousands of existing users and prevent any sudden disruption to their communication services.
Under the PTA’s interim relief plan, PTML has been granted a temporary period of 3 months, or 90 days, from the date it receives the order.
This three-month period has been provided solely to facilitate the smooth transfer of existing Onic users to PTML’s Primary network, Ufone, so that users’ data or balances are not lost.
