Avoid raising dust on roads during cleaning; action will be taken against the tehsil manager if any complaint of waste burning is received, the provincial minister told the meeting.
LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 15th Sep, 2026) A meeting chaired by Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafiq at the Civil Secretariat reviewed early measures to tackle potential smog risks and matters related to Suthra Punjab.
Focal Person for Suthra Punjab Asim Mahmood, Special Secretaries Shahid Zaman Lak and Syed Musa Raza were also present, while managing directors of district agencies participated via video link.
Suthra Punjab Authority Director General Umar Javed briefed the meeting. The provincial minister issued necessary instructions based on his observations during recent visits to various cities.
Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafiq expressed his resolve to ensure implementation of the anti-smog instructions issued by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
He strongly stressed that dust should not be raised on roads during cleaning, adding that action would be taken against the tehsil manager if a complaint of waste burning was received. He said roads should be cleaned only through mechanical methods involving the use of water.
The provincial minister directed the director general of Suthra Punjab to review the performance of district managing directors individually.
In this regard, the meeting decided to call the managing directors of Suthra Punjab agencies to the authority office in phases.
The local government minister said each Field Monitoring Officer (FMO) had been assigned responsibility for 24 beats.
FMOs would be required to visit at least 12 beats every day, while third-party validation of their performance would be conducted. Zeeshan Rafiq said the existing system would have to be further strengthened for effective monitoring of contractors. He added that after establishing an empowered agency in every district, improvement should be visible in the situation.
