Petroleum Levy Talks: Government Seeks One-Day Extension From Jamaat-e-Islami


The government has requested that the third round of talks be held on Tuesday instead of Monday, with Ahsan Iqbal conveying Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s message to Liaquat Baloch.

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 13th Sep, 2026) The government has sought an additional day for the third round of talks with Jamaat-e-Islami on the petroleum levy. Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal contacted Jamaat-e-Islami Deputy Emir Liaquat Baloch by telephone and conveyed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s message to him.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed a desire for the third round of talks on the petroleum levy to be held on Tuesday instead of Monday.

The talks between the government and Jamaat-e-Islami had initially been scheduled for Monday.

Jamaat-e-Islami Deputy Emir Liaquat Baloch said that talks with the government on the petroleum levy would be held on Tuesday, while negotiations on the issue of independent power producers (IPPs) would take place on Wednesday.
