The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence is a warning sign, and the pace of aggressively improving AI model capabilities must be slowed, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei says.
SAN FRANCISCO, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 13th Sep, 2026) Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, whose company developed the popular AI chatbot Claude, has made an unexpected call to halt—or at least slow—the technology race.
According to a US news website, Amodei warned that artificial intelligence technology is advancing at double and triple the pace.
He said this situation is a warning sign for the industry and requires serious safety measures.
If the pace of enhancing AI capabilities is not immediately slowed, rogue AI agents could hijack the internet within the next 6 to 12 months, potentially causing trillions of Dollars in losses to the global economy.
Explaining his position, he said the frontier of development is advancing rapidly, but this does not mean people should panic today or that everything should be shut down.
Rather, it is a warning sign that the pace needs to be reduced. The industry must slow the aggressive improvement of model capabilities. Even with a slower pace, technological progress will still appear rapid if this interim period is used wisely.
The Anthropic CEO announced that his company would give external testers access equivalent to that of employees to assess security and safety procedures, while establishing a transparent system for reporting potential incidents.
He said the entire AI industry should adopt this safety-focused approach and that all AI companies should advance the technology more slowly and cautiously, as preventing risks is of the greatest importance.
