BRICS countries expressed a joint position on terrorism, Palestine, Gaza, global trade, artificial intelligence, climate change, reforms in global financial institutions and ending wars, among other issues.
NEW DELHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 12th Sep, 2026) The BRICS summit in India concluded with the issuance of a 45-page declaration comprising 140 points. The declaration outlined the member countries’ joint position on terrorism, Palestine, Gaza, global trade, artificial intelligence, climate change, reforms in global financial institutions and the role of developing countries, among several other major global issues.
The summit, held in the Indian capital New Delhi under the leadership of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and United Arab Emirates Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, among other leaders.
According to an international broadcaster, the BRICS countries said in the declaration that they strongly condemn every act of terrorism that is criminal and cannot be justified in any way, regardless of its purpose, location, timing or perpetrator.
The declaration said they condemned in the strongest terms the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir on 22 April 2025, which killed 26 people and injured several others.
The BRICS countries reaffirmed their commitment to joint action against terrorism, its financing, cross-border terrorism and safe havens for terrorists.
They said terrorism should not be associated with any religion, nationality, civilization or ethnic group, and that those involved in or supporting terrorist acts must be held accountable.
The BRICS countries stressed a “zero tolerance” policy toward terrorism and called for an end to double standards in counterterrorism efforts.
They also called for action against all terrorists and terrorist organizations listed by the United Nations. The declaration emphasized greater cooperation to prevent extremism and radicalization among young people and combat terrorist financing, human trafficking, arms smuggling, money laundering, cybercrime, corruption and digital fraud.
BRICS expressed concern over unilateral tariffs, non-tariff measures and protectionist policies that violate World Trade Organization rules.
According to the declaration, such measures could affect global trade and supply chains and further deepen economic inequality. The group condemned unilateral economic sanctions and other coercive economic measures as contrary to international law, saying their effects fall disproportionately on poor and vulnerable communities.
The BRICS countries called for negotiations, diplomacy, mediation and conflict prevention to resolve disputes.
The declaration voiced concern over rising military spending, nuclear risks and the arms race, and highlighted the need to strengthen disarmament, arms control and the nuclear non-proliferation regime.
The group also underscored the importance of nuclear-weapon-free zones.
BRICS expressed concern over the tightening of unilateral sanctions and the blockade against Cuba and called for their removal.
The countries voiced deep concern over the situation in the middle East and urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint. The declaration called for maintaining a ceasefire in Gaza and ensuring the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid.
BRICS opposed the forced displacement of Palestinians and any changes to Gaza’s geography or population.
The group said a just and lasting solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict could only be achieved through peaceful means. It supported a two-state solution and called for the establishment of a sovereign and independent Palestinian state within the internationally recognized borders of 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Expressing concern over the humanitarian situation in Gaza, the declaration condemned attacks on civilians, medical facilities and other civilian infrastructure, as well as obstacles to the delivery of humanitarian aid.
The BRICS countries said they did not accept any unilateral action aimed at changing the legal or historical status of occupied Jerusalem.
BRICS welcomed the ceasefire in Lebanon and urged all parties to comply with its terms and ensure the full implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.
The declaration expressed concern over the worsening humanitarian crisis in Sudan and called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire and a negotiated solution. Regarding Syria, the group reaffirmed its support for the country’s sovereignty and an inclusive political process.
In the economic sector, BRICS called for reforms in the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and other global financial institutions.
The group supported greater representation, transparency and participation in decision-making for developing and emerging economies. The declaration also backed reforms to the IMF quota system and an increased share for developing countries in the World Bank.
The BRICS countries expressed their commitment to reforming the World Trade Organization and promoting an open, transparent, fair, inclusive and rules-based multilateral trading system.
They described artificial intelligence as an important opportunity for economic and sustainable development, stressing that international cooperation was necessary to make AI safe, reliable, inclusive and accessible to all.
In view of the growing risks associated with climate change, the BRICS countries agreed to strengthen their capacity to reduce disaster risks.
BRICS comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
Its membership was expanded during the BRICS summit held in Kazan, Russia, in 2024, with Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Indonesia joining the group as new members.
