ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 12th Sep, 2026) Inflation continues to surge in the country, with a sharp increase in oil prices in recent days placing an unbearable burden on the poor.
At a time when ordinary citizens are struggling to afford two meals amid record inflation, the government’s priorities and lavish spending have further aggravated public suffering.
Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry, in a post on social media platform X, wrote that oil prices had been increased by a record Rs30 per litre within just one week, taking the total increase to Rs125.
He said that while a “petrol bomb” was being dropped on the public, the government was purchasing new vehicles worth approximately Rs40 billion.
He also alleged that lakhs of rupees in public funds were being spent on Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s foreign trip, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s 45 foreign visits, President Asif Zardari’s trips and Mohsin Naqvi’s engagements.
The former federal minister further said that the priorities of government departments could be seen in the fact that bureaucrats had already received additional payments amounting to Rs200 billion, while 200 new luxury vehicles were being purchased for the lavish protocol of Federal board of Revenue (FBR) officers.
