The government has repeatedly sought more time from our team, saying it is helpless and cannot reduce petrol prices, Jamaat-e-Islami chief tells Gujranwala rally.
GUJRANWALA, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 11th Sep, 2026) Jamaat-e-Islami chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has announced a march towards Islamabad on September 20.
Addressing a rally in Gujranwala, the Jamaat-e-Islami chief said the government had been continuously seeking more time from his team.
He said no one was speaking about Pakistan’s current problems, adding that a small segment of society was responsible for the people’s present difficulties.
Hafiz Naeem said the government claimed that petrol prices had risen because of the international market.
“Then tell us why there are levies and heavy taxes?” he asked. The Jamaat-e-Islami chief said the government was charging the same levies and taxes on locally produced oil as on imported oil.
He said the government had stated that it was helpless and could not reduce petrol prices, adding that it had repeatedly sought more time from the Jamaat-e-Islami team.
The Jamaat-e-Islami chief said the march on Islamabad would take place on September 20.
It is pertinent to mention that Jamaat-e-Islami sit-ins against the petroleum levy and inflation have been continuing in different cities across the country for the past 27 days, while the party’s team in Islamabad has been holding negotiations with the government’s negotiating team intermittently.
The last round of negotiations in Islamabad was held on September 10, during which the government sought three more days from Jamaat-e-Islami.
The government delegation had requested the party not to issue a call for a long march towards Islamabad for another three days.
Jamaat-e-Islami’s delegation for negotiations with the government was led by Deputy Emir Liaquat Baloch, while the government negotiating team was headed by Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal.
The government team included Rana Sanaullah, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik and Bilal Azhar Kayani.
Earlier, on September 7, a Jamaat-e-Islami delegation led by Deputy Emir Liaquat Baloch had presented proposals and recommendations to the government regarding petroleum product prices.
