Karachi Hospital’s Alleged Negligence Leads To Amputation Of One-Month-Old Baby’s Hand


The baby allegedly received 6 to 7 injections through an incorrectly placed cannula; the hand turned black from infection after the bandage was removed four days later, and a case was registered against the doctor and staff.

KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 10th Sep, 2026) A one-month-old baby’s hand had to be amputated allegedly due to doctors’ negligence at a hospital in Karachi, according to the parents.

They said the doctor had a cannula placed in the baby’s hand and bandaged it, after which 6 to 7 injections were administered through the cannula. When the bandage was removed four days later, the hand had turned black because of an infection.

According to a media report, the hand of one-month-old Azmatullah was amputated allegedly due to doctors’ negligence in Karachi.

Police registered a case against the doctor and hospital staff at the Pirabad Police Station.

The baby’s father said that when his son fell ill on 31 August, he took him to a hospital in Orangi Town No.

4. There, Dr Yaser Inam had a cannula placed in the child’s hand and got it bandaged. Three staff members carried out the procedure, and 6 to 7 injections were administered through the cannula.

When a doctor at the hospital removed the bandage four days later, the baby’s hand had turned completely black.

The doctor prescribed medicines and said the infection would clear up. However, after the father noticed that the infection was spreading, he took the baby to Jinnah Hospital, where doctors told him that the infection had resulted from an incorrectly placed cannula and that the child’s hand would have to be amputated.

Police have registered a case and begun proceedings. According to police, a letter has been written to the Healthcare Commission to investigate the matter.
