According to Reuters, an emergency statement broadcast on Algerian state television said the government had made a final decision to completely end diplomatic relations with the UAE.
The official statement said Algeria took the difficult decision to sever ties with the United Arab Emirates after all diplomatic and mutual means and avenues to preserve bilateral relations had been exhausted.
Sources said the two countries had experienced severe diplomatic tensions and behind-the-scenes disputes for several years.
