MULTAN, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 1st Sep, 2026) Special Assistant to Punjab Chief Minister for Food Safety and Consumer Protection Salma Butt on Tuesday directed the departments concerned to intensify enforcement against adulteration and profiteering and ensure the availability of safe and affordable food items to citizens.

She issued the directives while chairing a meeting on the ongoing price control and consumer protection campaign at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office.

Deputy Commissioner Dr Faisal Saleem briefed her on measures being taken to control prices and safeguard consumer rights.

Salma Butt stressed the need for effective measures to ensure the quality of all food items, particularly milk and meat, saying no one would be allowed to play with public health.

She directed that Food Authority and price control teams be provided with effective training to improve their enforcement capacity. She also called for comprehensive data on cold storages and strict measures to prevent hoarding.

The Special Assistant said around 40,000 businesses were registered in Multan and directed the administration and relevant departments to ensure strict compliance with food safety and consumer protection laws.

She said Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif had placed special focus on providing essential food items at affordable prices. She directed officials to maintain complete records of supply and demand in grain and vegetable markets and strengthen monitoring mechanisms there.

She said work was underway to bring down the prices of several essential commodities and that revised rates would be set soon. The government was also working on revising official rates of milk, yogurt, mutton and beef, she added.

Salma Butt directed the administration and concerned departments to conduct joint operations for effective implementation of price control and food safety laws. She noted that a visible decline had been witnessed in the prices of vegetables, pulses and sugar.

Dr Faisal Saleem said the provision of quality and affordable essential commodities was among the top priorities of the Punjab government. He said the district administration had been tasked with taking strict action against profiteers and an effective campaign against overcharging was already underway.
