ABBOTTABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 29th Aug, 2026) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi on Saturday inaugurated the newly developed 702-kanal Abbottabad Park, established at a cost of Rs1.47 billion to provide recreational, healthy and environmentally sustainable facilities to citizens.
The Chief Minister also planted a tree at the park as part of the plantation initiative. Minister for Local Government, Elections and Rural Development Meena Khan Afridi and Secretary Zafarul islam Khan were also present.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Sohail Afridi said the provincial government was committed to developing sustainable, environmentally responsible and people-centred cities across the province. He said quality public spaces, improved urban environments and expanded green areas were essential for better cities.
The Chief Minister appreciated the efforts made for developing the park, saying the facility would provide families, children and young people with opportunities for recreation, physical activity and healthy social interaction.
Spread over 702 kanals, the park features 30 gazebos, six walking tracks, a 365-metre zip line, a cricket ground and a dedicated children’s play area. It also has a mosque with separate facilities for men and women and three parking areas with a combined capacity of around 250 vehicles.
Under the project’s environmental component, 13,000 trees are planned to be planted, of which around 7,000 have already been planted. No trees were felled during construction of the park.
The park is expected to benefit around 1.9 million people and provide residents and visitors with facilities for recreation, exercise, family activities and outdoor engagement.
Speaking on the occasion, Meena Khan Afridi said dozens of development projects had been launched to transform the urban landscape of the province. She said a clean and green Pakhtunkhwa was the vision of the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) that the provincial government was working to materialize.
